Bundibugyo Youth Business Platform

The Bundibugyo Youth Business Platform initiative is pioneered by Swisscontact U-learn phase 2 towards enabling the young people gain knowledge, share their experiences, opportunities, best practices and benefit from the networking opportunities within. The platform encourages inclusive participation of young people to tap into various opportunities that result into employment or sustainable livelihood opportunity. The platform allows the youth to connect to a broader range of people, stakeholders and networks.

Key Objectives of the Business Platform were:

  • Access for youthtorelevant knowledge/skills in areas of interest.
  • Access to market; connection to markets for their products and services.
  • Access to locally available skills and technologies as exhibited in the business platform. Exhibition of relevant local techniques and technologies to promote successful practices
  • Peer to peer connections, experience sharing and learning.
  • Access business advisory: to provide business advisory support to one on one or group of participants depending on area of interest.
  • Access to Youth Support Organizations with relevant services or opportunities: to share opportunities relevant to the youth.

Bundibugyo Business Platform Overview:

The Bundibugyo Youth Business Platform was held on Thursday 8th October, 2019 from 9.30am at the District County Hall. The event involved the participation of the various stakeholders both public and private, including the local government. The local government participation include: District Youth Coordinator and Community Development Coordinators.

Local Keynote Sessions

  1. Entrepreneurship best practices 1st Session by Allan Mayanja-Production Manager of Esco
  2. 2nd Session of Entrepreneurship Best practices by Mubako Seth -Managing Director of Dynapharm
  • The trainings were localized with both English and local language used to accommodate the audience in attendance.
  • This was followed by a local expert panel question and answer session where the local key note speakers responded to various questions addressed to them during the interactive Q and A session featuring the local business experts.

Access to farm inputs The main inputs supplier present was Dynapharm who distribute various organic fertilizers and farm inputs. They shared and interacted with many who were interested.

Sharing of market opportunities and farming Technical Advise;

Representatives of various partner organizations were in attendance to share various market opportunities they had. This included:

KK Foods-Represented by Joseph Muteyanjula

Tropical Dynasty -Represented by Hakim

Fish farming best practices and opportunities by Tibasiima Seth -District Fisheries Department.

Semiliki Producers Cooperative-Represented by Methodius

Financial Literacy Tips courtesy of Stanbic Bank’s representatives led by Kisembo Shakira.

Access to Information On Opportunities

Curad and Swisscontact Agribusiness Challenge opportunity: The Curad and Agribusiness Challenge opportunity was announced for the youth in Agribusiness to participate in the various available categories.

Virtual Platform and Testing User experience Evaluation

For the very first time also did a test pilot of the virtual platform and capture various feedback in the aspects of userflow and experience.

The local government presence and participation of the officials who included:CDO’s, DCOs, District Youth Council, District Fishery officer amongst other local government officials.

Voluntary Contributions to the Platform by participants: 214,000Ugx

During the platform contribution boxes were made available for participants and well wishers to contribute towards the platform: 214,000Ugx
