Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (PREO) Open Call 2025

The Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (PREO) program invites applications for its 2025 open call to support the implementation of Productive Uses of Renewable Energy (PURE) in sub-Saharan Africa. The program aims to stimulate local economic development and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG7, SDG8, and SDG13) by supporting innovative PURE business models.
Eligibility:
- Open to legally registered businesses and non-profit organizations based in sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa).
- Projects must pilot or pivot a business model focused on PURE and demonstrate its viability.
- Applications should propose projects lasting 12–24 months, to be completed by June 2027.
- Up to 20 grants of up to EUR 200,000 each are available (grants up to EUR 300,000 will also be considered).
Energy Sources:
Eligible renewable energy sources include biogas, geothermal, hydropower, solar PV, solar thermal, and wind power.
Key Focus Areas:
- Solar water pumping for irrigation
- Cold storage for food
- Agro-processing (e.g., milling, drying, oil pressing)
- Food value chain processing
- Electric mobility (e.g., for taxi drivers and fishing boats)

Application Process:
- Download and complete the Grant Application Form (Excel).
- Review the Grant Application Guidance Note and FAQ.
- Submit the completed form and supporting documents via the Google form.
